Hi lovely people! I'm sorry that this post will be another mediocre one. The commuting is exhausting me these days. Although I only spend 45 min between car-metro, I still feel pretty tired when I get home and 8 hours of sleep doesn't seem enough for me anymore. New schedule for workout and blogging is on the way, but I'm thinking about doing yoga in the morning at least 3 days a week and maybe two days in the gym for some cardio (which implies I need to leave home at 7am instead of 8am). When I come back from work, even it's only 6.30pm (early for a workout) I just feel tired and don't want to do anything but lay on the sofa and check out posts that I missed during the day. Where is my will power??? Come back soon!!!
Eats was mediocre as well. Still no lunch pic because my supervisor took me for lunch and basically I had some stir-fry veggies, curry chicken and rice.
Breakfast was at home and it was good
- 1/4 dry steel cuts made the night before
- 1/4 chinese dates (Alison, chinese dates are red)
- splash of almond milk to hydrate
- 2 squares of almond butter cornbread (one at the beginning, one in the middle way)
the other scrambled cornbread halfway through
As the day before I was starving all day long, I packed good amount of snacks to store it in the office: cereal bars, powdered soy milk, crackers and assorted tea bags.Along the day, I had two cereal bars, an apple and 4-5 crackers.
We had a social Ice-Cream at work: I had a bowl of chocolate ice cream with walnuts!!!
Back home, feeling really tired, I thought maybe I was tired because I was not working out. So I managed to do 60 min Dave Farmers class and felt great afterward.
Dinner was simple: stir-fry chinese broccoli, leftover shrimp with cucumber and a pot made with cucumber, eggplants, mushrooms with a miso dressing.all with a new porridge made with brown rice and cracked dry corns
Dessert was the expected comfort food: kabocha! with my little friend.
Tonight I'm going to a climbing gym with a friend! I haven't climb for almost a year! I'm super excited to see how bad I am now! ^_^
Have everyone a great Thursday!
Question: Do you pack lunch to office? Any tips on that? I need to begin to pack lunch to work, so I need your help!

Hello lovely! Commuting is exhausting!! I live about 45 minutes away from my uni, and I drive there are back 3 times a week. I also live far away from all my friends - who all live closer to the city - and it is really frustrating because all the fun things we organise are near them and never me!
How do you make your steel cut oats the night before? Does this mean you get out the door quicker in the morning?
I do pack a lunch to uni - normally a salad with tofu or tuna which I add later. I do it because its easy/healthy. It's hard to think of good things to take - because I don't have a fridge to store my food in, or a microwave to heat it up in!
I hate commuting- its totally exhausting. I have a half hour ride in both the morning and at night. Its not terrible, but at our old house it was like a 10 minute drive! I pack my lunch every day. Things I usually pack include some of the following: lots of fruits, veggies, salsa (for dipping or to use as salad topper), salads, pasta, applesauce, Sammies, frozen veggies with sauce on top (pot in microwave and you're good to go), beans, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese, rice cakes, nut butters, etc etc!
Your dinner looks delicious!
It's definitely hard adjusting to a new schedule, but it'll get easier. I've definitely had months where I would get home from work and not want to exercise. It was hard when I went in too early to work out before and then didn't get home until later. Now, I don't go into work until late morning, so I have plenty of time to work out in the morning.
As for lunch, I usually just pack leftovers. But I don't always like bothering with the microwave. So something like a lentil or chickpea salad works really well.
I have never considered putting cucumber in my stir-fry, it looks good! I do pack my lunch everyday, but it's not as neat as yours. I always give myself at least 2 fruits/veggies, then a serving of dairy, and some type of fat/protein (usually peanut butter), then some of my granola or a bar of some type (soy joy, cliff bar, etc.). I am usually on campus for about 4 hours so I'm not gone all day!
Love the cornbread in the oats!
That's good that you packed snacks for work. Being hungry all day is not fun!
Way to get a workout in even though you weren't feeling like it. The end result is always so refreshing!
Commuting is really tough! When I'm done with work for the day I know I still have 45 minutes until I can be at home eating, relaxing, and actually taking advantage of the rest of the day. But, I'm sure you'll get used to it and it won't be such a pain! I pack my lunch, but it's more of just a combination of millions of snacks because I get very snacky at work. I take mini-bagels with peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, yogurt and granola, fruit, cheese and crackers, popcorn, carrot muffins or cake, or whatever was left over from dinner the night before. Usually gets me through. I don't like eating one huge meal at work because I feel like I don't get to sit down long enough to enjoy it. Good luck with your new job!
You're still getting used to a new schedule, don't feel hopeless yet! In a few weeks your body will have adjusted and you'll find time for everything.
I sometimes feel like I'm tired because I haven't excercised either. I just have to remember that I have never once felt WORSE after excercising, which makes it more worth it.
I pack a lunch, and I usually stick with easy, simple things. Sandwiches, fruit, salad in a tupperware, raw veggies, yogurt, etc.
Have fun at the climbing gym!
Much love,
Rachel
I work some crazy shifts, sometimes I do a 12:00-21:00 then start at 9:00 the next morning, so I literally have 12 hours at home then I've to be back at work.
I usually take a packed lunch to work, we have the use of a microwave and fridge so I can take anything to heat up or cold salads etc.
It seems like you have enough snacks for during the day, so just pack an actual meal for lunch....as long as you have a microwave and a fridge, you can pack in the usual stuff you eat at home. When I was in school the whole day, I would pack in pasta salads, rice with curries, quinoa salads...basically anything that I had at home.
Working and commuting are SO exhausting! I never wanted to exercise when I had to commute - and I never did :(
Enjoy climbing! I used to love it but I haven't done it in a while.
i always hate commuting for and to work! boohiss!
as for lunch at the office...i always have sandwiches and some fruit. but i've noticed i need to start putting more protein in it. meh. hope yo uget some good suggestions!
Ya know mama, sometimes we just need to chill out and kick it and give our willpower a rest. You know what I mean? You'll get back at it with a vengeance. Relish your time off. You so deserve it!
oh you sound like you are ultra busy with all that you have going on! commuting is such a drag, too bad we dont all have chauffeurs :) then you could blog while you commuted! ha!
hope you get a second to breathe.. you will figure out a good schedule soon i am sure. in the mean time, i will be missing your marathon posts of love!!
xoxo
mmmm porridge!
taking lunches is key for me- i try to mix it up but end up making lots of bean dishes and pasta!
commuting is SO exhausting! and its hard to motivate yourself after a long day at work!
maybe try working out in the morning?
try doubling your dinner portion and putting half of it in a tupperware container for lunch the next day? that way you don't have to think about lunch because it's already done when you made dinner the night before!
Yes-I used to pack lunch.Mostly Indian food though-like pilaf's,roti+curry.Sometimes I used to use some dry curry as a filling for sandwiches-tastes great:)
Hi Coco!! I'm sorry the commute is SO TIRING but i'm sure your body will get used to it really soon!! my boyfriend spends 1.5 hours commuting to work and then another 1.5 back, but he got used to it!
I always pack lunch for work and so does my boyfriend. I would say invest in some REALLY good tupperware that won't spill and is microwaveable, and all different sizes. I don't like bringing too many tupperwares because it gets heavy, so usually i stuff all my stir-fry, rice, and veggies into one deep one! If I bring a sandwich of some sort, I will pack my bread separate from the filling so I bring a BIG salad that also becomes part of he filling. Whole fruit is easy to pack too!
Hope this is somewhat helpful...:) Good luck with the meals and commuting Coco!! It's almost FRIDAY and you can relax!!!
Exercise always seems to invigorate me when I am feeling a bit lousy!
I did a post a while back about "Portable Eats" if you're interested. It might be helpful for packing you lunch!
I always packed salads, sandwiches or pasta for work cause they seem to hold up until lunch.
