Bad food blogger & Skin Type Solution review

First is first... I'm such a bad food blogger. I noticed that since I began the summer internship my food choice went down pretty fast. I don't know how you people do to have a full time job, workout and still manage to eat and take picture of your amazing food. My intention was there but my action didn't follow. When I get home at night I just want to spend <20 style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 102, 102);">

Breakfast: green monster with berries pie that I made with frozen blueberries and strawberries, topped with a crust made with oatmeal, flaxmeal, ABU and agave nectar, topped with more ABU and greek yogurt.
Dinner (both Monday and Tuesday): my latest obsession celery blended oatbran; stir-fry tomatoes with mushrooms, tofu and dry shrimps.
Dessert: KABOCHA!!! A big bowl of it! And Lindts Truffles. (they're good but I found them not as bitter as I like)

Book review: Skin Type Solution
About the author: She spent the last 10 years defining and clinically testing her Skin Type solution on thousands of patients at the University of Miami clinic to assure that her scientific criteria work for everything, of every skin color, ethnicity, age and sex. And it does.

Her system: measures four factors in skin: oiliness vs. dryness, resistance vs. sensitivity, pigmentation vs. non-pigmentation, and tightness vs. wrinkling. Determine where you fall in each of the four categories serves as the foundation for typing your skin. So, you need to fill out a questionnaire first to determine what's your skin type and then she writes a chapter for your skin type with what you should pay more attention; what products to use and avoid and a detailed routine of your skin care with a list of products that you can find easily and cheap.
This book will save you the expense, trouble and waste of buying the wrong products. Her recommendations are ingredient driven. She's reviewed the clinical trial data for the products when available.

Some skin care myth that she talked about: the more expensive a product, the better it will work. Totally not true according to her because what you pay when you buy big brand's product is its bottle not its ingredient. What you actually get is exactly the same cream, just in different container with different marketing strategy.

My take of the book: I really like it. What she says makes sense to me. And because of her expertise in the area (she direct the university of Miami cosmetic center, the first university run cosmetic research center in the US. She's the first cosmetic dermatologist in the US dedicated to the field of cosmetic dermatology who is also a full time university faculty member, teaching and conducting research), I can trust that she know what she's talking about. Her recommendation is really skin type specific and she gives a list of products that you could purchase. They all work and most of them are really cheap. I've already began the routine that she recommended for my skin type and I already notice that my skin is clearer and less break outs. So, girls.... get this book and begin to GLOW!!!

Question: Do you know what's your skin type? What's your skin routine? How much do you usually spend?

Comfort food everyday and product review!~

My idea of comfort food: satisfying, yummy, simple, pretty and most of all, healthy! yeah~~~ maybe some people relates comfort food with tons of cheese or creams. Perhaps psychologically comfort food means something that you don't usually allow you to have. But that's not my concept of comforting food. First I don't like these food, my palate prefers simple and mild taste; second, how can a comfort food makes you feel sick afterward? I feel really sick if I devour big amount of fat and salt, really discomforting.
These last two days I've been rewarding myself with these simple, yummy food (that I think can all be qualified by HealthyYum.com)
Green oats made with spinach, cauliflower and topped with smoked salmon. It's a perfect dinner meal~~~

I think many of you would agree that KABOCHA can be qualified as comfort food, so I've been having them as dessert AGAIN!!! yeah~~~ I missed it!
Another comforting meal: sauteed Chinese mustard, lotus with mushrooms and more oat bran with celery!
I blended celery with cooked oat bran and sit for 5 min
it's really really yummy~~~ perfect light flavored oat with tons of fibers!
Comforting breakfast combo: green oats, raspberries and ABU! There's nothing prettier than this, right Polly?
Next, I have 2 things to review today. First, the AMAZING GRASS!!! Yeah~~ I'm jumping to the AG wagon too!!! These AMAZING people sent me these samples
So far I've only tried I made a GM with 1 cup frozen blueberries to make it more berry-like, big handful of steamed spinach and this Berry Flavor Drink Powder!
Look the color
that was a perfect combo for breakfast! Yummy, nutritious and pretty! (the pic doesn't make justice here, it looks so dark, but actually it's dark purple color, really beautiful!)
The taste? mmm..... I barely noticed its flavor, maybe because I added too much berries. But at least I can assure you that no grass-taste! And thinking about all the benefits it has...I immediately felt more energetic and beautified! ^_^

New sport MUST have:

I've been swimming more often lately and my co-worker just found this Waterproof headphone System from h20 audio that allow you to use your ipod shuffle to listen to music when you're under water. Oh man... this must be one of the best purchases I've made this year! I can't describe how great it works and how amazing is to have music when you swim. I used it for the first time yesterday, again today and now I want to swim everyday!!! ^_^

Question: What's your concept of comfort food? And what's the best purchase you've made this year?

Day 6: oatmeal lovers, ready for some steel cuts?

I'm finally ready to do the review of McCann's products. Two weeks ago people from McCann's was so nice to send me these to try
Steel cut, assorted instant fruit oatmeal and instant oatmeal.I've seen their products in Tj's and WF and I was very curious about how their oats and steel cuts differ from other brands, since their products are a little bit more expensive.
The first thing I tried was their flavored instant package.Product description: flavored instant oatmeal. It's really easy to make, just add 1/2 of boiling water and sit for 2-3 min.
With the boiling water, pretty water eh?After 2-3 min, magic happened!
Texture: It's very creamy and surprisingly chewy. I thought instant oatmeal are generally bland and that's why I prefer rolled oats. But this one has very similar texture to rolled oats, just in smaller flakes.
Taste: The banana flavor is very strong which I love. Adding a little bit of salty PB was the perfect afternoon snack or light breakfast. The only thing that I'd modify this is to add less sugar. It was a little too sweet for me. I don't usually add sweetener to my oatmeal, but if you do, this will be just right for you. I might add more oats to this package or do 1/2 package and 1/2 regular oats to make it less sweet.
I also tried the blueberries flavor, it was good. I added some more instant plain oatmeal to make it less sweet. But I couldn't really taste its flavor (although you can see some real blueberries in there).
overall rating: 8/10.

Product description: from their website

Why Steel-cut Oats?

Steel-Cut Oats are whole grain groats (the inner portion of the oat kernel) which have been cut into two or three pieces using steel discs. Golden in colour and resembling mini rice particles, they are as nature intended – nothing added and nothing taken out.

How are they different from Rolled Oats?

Rolled oats are flake oats that have been steamed, rolled, re-steamed and toasted. Due to all of this additional processing they have lost some of their natural taste, goodness and texture.

What makes McCann's Steel-cut Oats so special?

Grains are essential to a healthy lifestyle and form the foundation of the food pyramid. Steel-Cut oats are inherently full of nutritional value and are high in B-Vitamins, calcium, protein and fiber while low in salt and unsaturated fat. One cup of Steel-Cut oatmeal contains more fiber than a bran muffin and twice as much fibre as Cream of Wheat. The quality of Irish Oats and the distinctive crunchy texture make McCann's Steel-Cuts a gourmet delight.

Preparation method: 4 cups of water for 1 cup of steel cuts. I set it overnight to shorten the cooking time. The next morning I cooked it for 15 min and it was done.
Texture: It's definitely different than rolled oats. It has little grits in it that make it very chewy.
Taste: It has a very nutty flavor and its own taste is stronger than rolled oats. You know that rolled oats by itself doesn't have much flavor/taste and it takes whatever you add to it, but steel cut have its own flavor, I personally like the nutty flavor but I can't guarantee that everyone does.
How do I like it? First try: 1 serving of oatmeal, 1/3 c. pumpkin, 1/3 c. silken tofu, 1/3 c. coconut milk, cinnamon, pumpkin spice and vanilla.
It was chewy and tasty, but not creamy enough.
Second try: 1 serving of oatmeal, 2 tbsp instant plain oatmeal, 1/2 banana, 1/3 c. coconut milk, 1 c. blueberries, vanilla, all blended at the end.
This one was perfecT!!!! Perfectly sweetened by the banana and perfect combination of chewiness and creaminess. So, I'll definitely add plain oatmeal to the steel cuts.
overall rating: 9/10.

okay. after this long review. Let's keep my day 6 of the Challenges recap short. Basically I worked all day and ended doing Maggie's recommended yoga class which was great! A lot of flow which made me sweat and some long pigeon at the end for a good relaxation. After that, I had a short beauty session: long bath, moisturize whole body with rose oil and a facial mask. It was fun!
Breakfast was the pumpkin tofu steel cut oatmeal with 3 mini kiwis.
Morning snack: orange, banana and walnuts.Lunch salad: exactly the same as yesterday's plus aduki beans and microwaved egg white.Dessert: pumpkin + wheatberries + cinnamon.PM snack: an apple + WW bread with BB.Dinner: grilled shrimp + kabocha fries + steamed green beans.Dessert: tea jelly!Today's plan
- yoga
- shopping mall to find a salad bowl
- cooking

A nutrition related question: Do you have idea of how much fat do you have per day? I mean healthy fats. How much do we need? I'm asking this because I'm always wondering if I'm having enough.

recap of Sunday and more pic from Argentina!~~

Hi lovely people~~~ How was your Sunday? I hope you enjoyed it as I did, although my way of enjoying it was studying 9 hours on my research (Nerd!?), but it was productive so I don't complain. let me do a recap of yesterday's eats before I move to more pic from Arg.
Breakfast: again the same combo, toasted Tj's muffin + laughing cow and strawberries (I actually made oatmeal, but when it was done my body wasn't convinced so I put it away and toast the muffin. Intuitive, heah?)No AM snack again! Work work work!
Lunch: balanced plate again, same veggies, no rice because I was craving something crunchy so I finished that 1/3 package of tortilla flat bread.Dessert: little bowl of ricotta + Chocolate PB.PM snack: Quaker's chocolate mousse bar (brought from Argentina, I don't think they hold it in US). It was delicious!!!Dinnah: 2 baked sore filled with onions, soy sauce, sesame oil and honey; my first succeded kale chips and some rice.Dessert: another new kind of greek yogurt Voskos. It has 24 g of protein!!!! that's 49% of daily intake! In term of taste? It's good, it's not tart, it's very creamy but not as thick as fage. (maybe a little thicker than Oikos). Overall, I like it. ^_^ (I'm such a greek yogurt fan, I want to try all kinds in the world! ). I had it with my mixgranola!okay. now let's move to a meal that I had in one of the most fancy italian restaurant in BA (I know I've said most fancy restaurant too many times, but it's the truth! Most of the restaurant I went this time are the best in BA) called BICE. They are also in other part of the world, like Milan, NYC.the entrance
the bread basketitalian flat bread with seasoned oil
we had an octopus salad as first course
I had fish with a mouse of broccoli as main dishStar had fried shrimp
And the most famous italian dessert: tiramisucoffee and petit foursSuch a great meal, isn't it?

okay. Done with the recap, time to start working. Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday to begin the week! :)
